TPS23881B1EVM-024: Need clarity on 4-pair port connections

Part Number: TPS23881B1EVM-024

Tool/software:

Hi,

Need some clarity on connections in 4-pair port configuration. The EVM schematic shows:

whereas in the datasheet the connections shown are different:

In the datasheet, VPWR netlabels goes directly in both the positive sides of the RJ45 connector whereas in the EVM the VPWM goes in VDC1- and VDC2+. Are they both same or am I missing something.

  • Hi Basit,

They are theoretically the same, it just depends on the pinout mode. PDs connected on the far end can accept either connection and is just a nomenclature. I would recommend following the EVM, as we run sifos using the EVM and the setup steps reflect this, however they both work and are both compliant.

As you can see here from BT spec, MDI vs MDI-X connection.

    On the EVM it is:

    Alt A - MDI-X

    Alt B - MDI

    Regards,

    Brandon
