BQ34Z100-R2: Load Select for systems with intermittent high loads

Part Number: BQ34Z100-R2

Tool/software:

Hi team,

As we collect logs to have your team investigate the sudden changes in our system's SOC estimation, we have a question on the "Load Select" and "Load Mode", in case we have it incorrectly set.

Context:

During the day, our system charges the battery and deals with frequent heavy (motor) loads that happen every few minutes and last for a few seconds, then it is back to a relatively low digital system load. During the night, the system remains on low digital load, and no charging happens. Currently, we have Load Mode set to "0" and Load Select set to "1".

Our understanding is that the system is in constant impedance tracking and updating of the impedance tables every time it is in rest mode and after capturing OCV values.

  • After reading this document, and given our system's daytime load is not always consistent, is the above setting still the most suitable for a stable SOC/capacity estimation?
  • Wouldn't it be appropriate to set it as 2 (Average Current: based on the AverageCurrent()) or 3 (Current: based on a low-pass-filtered version of AverageCurrent() (τ=14s)) ? (to stabilize capacity/SOC estimation)

Your input is highly appreciated!

Cheers,

Ali

  • Hi Ali,

How is the current load mode and load select preforming?

Can you share a log file of an expected load? I can make a suggestion on how load mode/select should be configured with that.

    Regards,

    Diego

  • Hi Diego,

We will start capturing proper fuel gauge logs soon but it is a bit difficult at this very moment, but we have a third-party monitoring system for some of the useful battery parameters. See the attached image and let me know if this helps.

  • Hi,

It is difficult to get a good understanding of what is happening from this grapg.

Is it possible to share the raw data used to create this graph? .csv format will work!

If not please share the log file once available.

    Regards,

    Diego
