TPS65994QFNEVM: TPS65994QFNEVM kit GUI Software

Part Number: TPS65994QFNEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65994, TPS65988DK

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

We have ordered a TPS65994QFNEVM kit. We now require a GUI customization tool. Although we have requested the software, we have not yet received any updates.

Thanks and Regards

  • Hi Karthik,

Could you share more details on your end equipment? The TPS65994 device family is specifically meant for PC/NB designs that are following Intel reference designs.

We may have other solutions that will better fit your design needs. If so, we will certainly make sure to get you the right EVM you need.

    Thanks,

    Matt

  • Hi Matthew,

Thank you for your response. Our application involves a device that operates in OTG mode, powered by the phone, Phone will act as the host for data communication with the device. We want to be able to charge the phone without disconnecting the OTG cable. We need an additional port that allows us to connect an external adapter for simultaneous charging of the phone and powering the device while maintaining data communication between the phone and the device. When the adapter is removed, the phone should resume providing power to the device, and data communication should continue.

We have already purchased the EVM for this purpose and now we need the software to configure the ports.

    Thanks and Regards

  • Can you please respond to the above thread

  • Hi Karthik,

Could you clarify some assumptions for me. So your system will have two type-C ports, one dedicated as a power sink (for battery charging), and one dedicated as a DRP for either sourcing power to the phone or sinking power from the phone (charging battery), depending on if there is additional power to your system?

I do not recommend the TPS65994 for this type of application as this is tailored specifically for Intel reference designs for PC/NB systems. A better bet will be to use the TPS65988DK. However, this is a fairly unique type of application that will require some MCU for power management on your system that goes beyond the scope of USB-C and USB PD.

Looking forward to your feedback on my assumptions and recommendations.

    Thanks,

    Matt

  • Hi Matthew,

Thank you for your response. In our system, we don't have a dedicated battery. we use a smartphone with a type C port. The smartphone connects to a USB device via the type C port, and the USB device draws power from the smartphone through OTG. The issue we're facing is with charging the smartphone. We need to be able to use our USB device while simultaneously charging the smartphone, without disconnecting the USB device. I've attached an image of the cable for your reference.

    Thanks and Regards

  • Hi Karthik,

Thank you for the details. After reviewing this application further, our devices were not designed with these types of applications in mind, and I'm not sure a PD controller would be the right device for this type of use case. The TPS65994 and TPS65988DK should only be used when following a PC/NB, TBT, or USB4 reference design.

I'm sorry I could not help you further. If you'd like to return your EVM, let me know and we can help make that happen.

    Thanks,

    Matt
