TPS22950: TPS22950 RCB clarification

Part Number: TPS22950

Tool/software:

Hello TI Power Switch Professors,

RCB threshold according to D/s is ~40mV, so roughly the reverse current limit is 900mA.

Q1: To me, I can use this for bidirectional current for say charging Li+ w/ <=500mA without no issue.

Q2: Can you confirm the below condition satisfies abs max, and that no reverse current will be passed (only leakage, not 900mA thresh).

VIN: 0 (DC)
VOUT: 0->5V ramp.
EN: Tied Low.

My assumption from d/s is no reverse current will flow and device will sit there happily. 900mA RCB thresh ony applies when input is enabled.

Q3: Do you have any broad guidance on using ILIM voltage for rough current sense?

Thank you!

  • Hi!

    RCB threshold according to D/s is ~40mV, so roughly the reverse current limit is 900mA.

    Yes, that's correct.

    Q1: To me, I can use this for bidirectional current for say charging Li+ w/ <=500mA without no issue.

    yes, since this won't trigger the RCB

    Q2: Can you confirm the below condition satisfies abs max, and that no reverse current will be passed (only leakage, not 900mA thresh).

    VIN: 0 (DC)
    VOUT: 0->5V ramp.
    EN: Tied Low

    The device should have always on reverse current threshold even when En and Vin are low as long as the Vout-Vin threshold is met. Let me also once verify this on my end.

    Q3: Do you have any broad guidance on using ILIM voltage for rough current sense?

    Since this is not designed for monitoring the current but internally will have a sense FET and comparator, this should co-relate with the current through the mainFET. We do not have any existing guideline for this and will recommend you to evaluate this.

    Thank you i will wait for your reply, but i hope that when EN is low, Reverse current is always blocked without threshold.

    I know this function is coming from backgate switching and i honestly dont know.

  • Hi!

    I will need some time to verify this at my end. Please expect my next reply by Thursday EOD.

  • Hi!

    I was able to perform this test at my end and I didn't see any reverse current when I tested for all conditions.
