BQ21080: question about BQ21080

Part Number: BQ21080
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA226

Tool/software:

Hi teams,

Here is SHENZHEN MM FAE Chris, my customer has some questions as follow:

The customer wants to have some modifications based on BQ21080.

1. Use it only as a power source, and keep the short circuit and reverse protection functions of the battery cell

2. The voltage and current can be set arbitrarily within the chip specification range. We collect the voltage through the external ADC (INA226) and adjust the set current through the connected microcontroller

If the above functions cannot be realized,  Can the activation current be opened and we can modify it through the communication protocol? Now it is fixed at 8mA, and the capacity of the solid-state battery is 750mAH. It takes 1.5H to activate the voltage to 1.8V, so we hope that this 8mA activation current can be opened for us to set.

  • Hello Chris,

    1. Use it only as a power source, and keep the short circuit and reverse protection functions of the battery cell

Could you please clarify how the customer's system is set up? Specifically, where will SYS be powered from — BAT or VIN? Is there going to be a battery involved? A schematic would be helpful for understanding the configuration.

Can the activation current be opened and we can modify it through the communication protocol?

Unfortunately, we are unable to modify the trickle charge current value.

    Best regards,

    Alec Lehman
