Hi,

We are developing a Level 3 autonomous tractor and are currently working on the power supply component identification for a 12V vehicle battery-powered system to drive a PMSM motor for the autosteer sub-module.

In our power supply design, we have identified the PMIC TPS65313-Q1 for the autosteer ECU board. Could you please advise if this component is suitable for our design?

Our power supply design specifications are as follows:

Input: 12V vehicle battery (Range: 4.5V to 36V)
Output 1: 3.3V, 2.5A (Buck)
Output 2: 5V, 600mA (Boost converter from Output 1 - 3.3V. Designed to withstand cold crank where battery voltage may drop to 4.5V)
Output 3: 1.8V, 1A (Buck/LDO from Output 1 - 3.3V)

Could you kindly suggest a suitable PMIC for our design?

Hi Jacob,

to me it seems like the TPS65313 could be a good option for this application. My only concern is the boost output current as you have marked it for 600mA output current which is the maximum rated output current for the boost. If this is the peak value of the current draw then it might be fine but I would still always recommend something like 10 % margin in the needed current levels.

Could you please provide the exact part number for my output voltage selections (automotive grade)?
Buck 1: 3.3V, Buck 2: 1.8V, and Boost: 5V

Hi Jacob,

we only have one part number which is O31310QRWGRQ1 which you can find here and it has the following voltages:

Buck1: 3.3 V

Buck2: 1.2 V

Boost: 5V

We don't have a device which would have buck2 at 1.8V.

oh my goodness.. We have already started our schematic design using this IC. The datasheet clearly mentions that Buck 2 has factory-selectable output voltages: 1.2V, 1.25V, 1.8V, or 2.3V. Have all variants other than the 1.2V option been discontinued?
Could you please suggest replacement PMICs that support system-level functional safety requirements up to ASIL-C and SIL-2?

Hi Jacob,

we have only released to market this one configuration with more configurations available as custom EEPROMs. For custom EEPROM you need to discuss with the marketing team as there are some requirements for us to make custom EEPROMs for this device. Please contact your local sales team if you would like to consider this option. This way we could provide you a variant of this with buck2 at 1.8V.

For alternative devices you might want to check for TPS65310 and TPS65311. These have programmable output levels with resistors.

Hi Niko,

Thank you for the clarifications.

We reviewed the alternate parts and found that the TPS65313-Q1 is the best-suited option for our application. We are considering adding a 1.8V LDO to address the voltage requirement.

Since we plan to proceed with this PMIC, could you provide information on the End-of-Life (EOL) status of the MPN: ' O31310QRWGRQ1 '? It's important for us to assure our customer that the product will remain active for at least the next 10 years.
