BQ25890: Is this part number the right choice?

Part Number: BQ25890
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25638

Tool/software:

Hello,

We are developing a battery charger, and I would like to know if the BQ25890 is the right choice for our application (apart from that, it is so complex, that we would like to use the same IC for future charger developments).

Single Cell Battery Charger characteristics needed:

  • Input Voltage Range: 3,9V – 12V. (BQ25890: 3.9V -14V).
  • Input current limit: 200mA – 3A. (BQ25890: 100mA – 3.25A).
  • Maximum Buck Mode Current: 4.75A (BQ25890: 5A).
  • Maximum Boost Mode Current: 2A. (BQ25890: 2.4A).
  • Instant-on works with no battery or depply discharged battery.   (BQ25890:Yes)
  • BATFET Control to support Ship mode.  (BQ25890:Yes).
  • I2C Controlled.  (BQ25890:Yes).
  • Output voltage programming and monitoring. (BQ25890:Yes).
  • Output current programming and monitoring. (BQ25890:Yes).

Do you consider the BQ25890 the right choice, or is there any other newer/more recommeded charger device?

As I said, the idea is not only choosing the device for this development, we would like to add it as the preferred device for future developments, so any confirmation of no risk of obsolescence would be appreciated.

Best regards.
