TPS2546: Only provide 500mA when CTRL1 toggle

Hi,

We found TPS2546 when CTRL1 toggle, it may cause device only chaging in 500mA current.

Need re-plug in usb cable to let TPS2546 renegotiate to set to DCP 1.5A charging.

Please see below link test method, schematic and waveform. We want clarify is the behavior is normal?

Restart CH1=CTRL1 CH2=VIN(we will update to Vout waveform later)

S4 CH1=CTRL1 CH2=VIN(we will update to Vout waveform later)

S5 CH1=CTRL1 CH2=VIN(we will update to Vout waveform later)

Probe 1_2 : D+/D-

Update the waveform add CH4 CTRL1.

CH1: D+

CH2: D-

CH3: VBUS

CH4:CTRL1

Hi Jeff,

It is a little unclear to me what is going on.

What is the state of the other CTL pins and the ILIM_SEL pin at this time?

When does the initial plug and second plug happen? If the initial plug is the very first waveforms, why are they changing the CTL1 pin during BC1.2 enumeration?

What is their expected behavior when the CTL1 pin toggles?

The configuration at power up should depend on the table 3 truth table.

They should not be changing the CTLx pins mid BC1.2 enumeration.

=> CTL2/3 and ILIM_SEL are always pull high.

=> I think it becase when system restart GPIO may set to default, so it will cause status changing in BC1.2 enumeration.

So seems CTRL1 status changing in BC1.2 enumeration caused final result to 500mA?SDP or unknow status?

I would start by trying to address that. I don't feel comfortable with changing the CTL pins during enumeration, and don't know of any expected behavior or testing done when this happens.
