BQ24721C: Are exist a part like BQ24721C for 2 cell Li ion battery pack wich need 8.4V

Part Number: BQ24721C
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25708

Tool/software:

Hello,

according the datasheet  of BQ24721C the minimum battery charging voltage is 9V (register 0x15), this is for the most 2 cell Li ion battery packs to much. As possible alternative I had a look to the BQ25708, which looks quite similar to the BQ24721C, but for me there will be some difference according the battery pack. The BQ24721C is for using with SMBus battery packs, but the BQ25708 seems not designed for that tpye of battery packs. Is a similar part like BQ24721C available wihich is prefered to use with a SMBus battery pack and with same behavior?

Thanks in advance for your trouble.

Best regards

Thomas Weber

I might be confused on your question, but the BQ25708 battery charger can communicate with smart batteries. Please refer to section 8.5.1 SMBus Interface in the datasheet:

  • Hello Christian,

let me clarify my main topics. The BQ24721C for instance has a thermistor input (TS pin 15) or see page 21  Typical Application of the datasheet. This input allows to prevent charging when the battery temperature is too cold or too hot. In my application this is important. I also would prefer a transistor switch for power path from battery to system, as shown in the typical application with Q5.

Simply spoken I am looking for a part similar to the BQ24721C and a Battery charge voltage (min) (V) smaller than 7V. My first attempt to try it with the BQ25708 seems not to satisfy all my requests. Maybe I have a more detailed look to all other parts to hopefully find my "part".

    Best regards
