LM5158-Q1: 52v/0.6a Boost Conv Audible Sound

Part Number: LM5158-Q1

Tool/software:

I have a PoE product where I am connecting all my devices in a daisy chain using PoE power. I am using the LM5158QRTERQ1 to boost and supply 52V to the PSE. The boost voltage is from 40V-48V input to 52V output with a maximum of 0.5A. Each device draws ~60mA at 40Vin.  I tested it by connecting 3devices to draw a maximum of 250mA at 40V input. However, I am experiencing an audible noise issue and have tried various compensation values but have not been able to eliminate the sound. My design was already reviewed and certified by TI, but the sound persists. Do you have an EVM for this input and output voltage range that I could order and test in my setup? Alternatively, can you suggest a different solution?

  • Hi Rama,

Thanks for reaching out. Can you please shre your schematic as well as some scopeshots of your design running? (Vin, Vout, switchnode and COMP pin)?

Unfortunately, our boost EVM has different specs. However, if some components like inductor, diode and capacitors are adjusted, it would be possible to use it four your conditions.

Audible noise can be caused by MLCCs : https://www.ti.com/document-viewer/lit/html/SSZTB09

If this is the rootcause, the noise can be reduced by changing the capacitors.

    Best regards
