UCC27524: Changes in VDD during operation

Hi team,

I am considering using UCC27524 to drive a pulse transformer in a PSFB circuit.

At startup, VDD is 12V, but after PSFB starts, it rises to 18V.

Is it okay to use it like this?

Since SiC is used, the gate voltage needs to be increased.

Hi Kobayashi-san,

Yes, 18V is still within the spec limits of the UCC27524, so it's okay to use in this system. Have you considered using the UCC27624 instead? It is the latest generation of dual-channel gate drivers, and it is far more robust than the UCC27524. Unless the UCC27524 is absolutely needed, I would recommend starting new projects with the UCC27624.

Thank you for recommending UCC27624.
Will there be any adverse effects on the gate driver if VDD fluctuates during operation?
Since it drives a pulse transformer, the SiC gate voltage will also change.

Hi Kobayashi-san,

How much fluctuation are you expecting, and how fast is fluctuation? In general, if it's within the VDD specs, then it should be okay.

Hi Rubas,

It starts at 12V. After PSFB starts, it rises to 18V.

The transition time is a few ms, and it becomes stable after reaching 18V.

The gate driver will be able to handle that as it's within specs.
