BQ25618: I2C specification

Hello,

A customer asked about BQ25618 I2C questions as below.

1) SCL, SDA theshold voltage at 3V Pull up rail

Could you please let us know SCL, SDA threshold will be changed if 3.0V like different Pull Up voltage rail. Although it looks same.

2) SCL, SDA timing

Could you let us know SCL, SDA timing requirement.

    Please see my comments below. 

    1) It is acceptable to use a higher voltage pullup rail for SCL and SDA such as 3V. The logic high and low voltage thresholds will remain the same. 

    2) Please refer to official I2C specification, which can be found online, for necessary timing requirements. Relevant timing requirements are listed in Table 11. BQ25618 is compatible with up to 400kHz SCL clock frequency.

    We do not list I2C related timing specs in our battery charger IC datasheets. The customer simply needs to ensure their system meets the requirements listed in the official I2C specification. 

    I have liked the specification here: https://www.nxp.com/docs/en/user-guide/UM10204.pdf. As I mentioned in my last reply relevant timing specs are listed in Table 11 on page 44.
