UCC20225A-Q1: How to terminate unused channel of device?

I came across UCC20225A-Q1 as a very fast isolated gate driver, but for my application I only need one channel of the gate driver. If I am only using OUTA, how should I terminate VDDB, VSSB, and OUTB?

  • Hi Harley,

    Since the two channels are completely independent from each other, you can simply ground INB and leave the secondary side pins floating.

    We do have many single channel isolated gate drivers that may be a better fit for your application if only 1 channel is desired.

    I'm looking for an isolated gate driver with minimum propagation delay and rise time, and comparable drive strength to UCC20225A-Q1, but the closest I see is UCC5304 which has ~2x the propagation delay. Are you aware of any other options?

    Actually, this device is single PWM so there is no need to short INB (pin 3) to ground.

    Yes, you are correct. You could short VDDB to VSSB to only have OUTB floating which could reduce the amount of noise picked up by these pins, but it is fine to leave them open since these channels are independent and isolated from each other.

    Here are a few suggestions:

    If propagation delay is a high priority, then UCC20225A-Q1 may be the best fit since it does have the lowest propagation delay.

    If there is some wiggle room for propagation delay, the above units as well as UCC5304 are good options. UCC21231 and UCC21330 are the latest generation devices with increased robustness and improved cost structure.
