LM5176-Q1: Does LM5176 can output 30A current?

Part Number: LM5176-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5176, LM51772

Tool/software:

Customer is finding a Buck-boost solution, could you pls help advise? Thanks.

input:10-40VDC

output:24V or 28V/30A (there are two project, one is 24V output, another is 28V output)

Rating: Automotive

efficiency: above 95% (If it cannot be achieved, the requirements can be lowered)

I want to promote LM5176-Q1 for this case, But I found that the maximum output current in the webench can only be set to 25A.Does LM5176 can output 30A current?

Could you pls help advise the suitable solution? Thanks.

  • Hello Jon,

The LM5176 is a controller using external transistors, so the maximum power depends on the used external transistors. I would imagine that with 2 transistors for every place so 8 transistors in total this should be possible, but especially when thinking about 28V output and 10V input, we are speaking about 90A in the transistors, so if this is a case that happens for a long time, then even 2 transistors in parallel on the buck high-side and the boost stage might not be enough.

So in summary, possible, but the power stage needs to be properly selected.

In general, I would recommend using not just one device for such a high current to spread the heat creation.

If you want to parallel devices, I recommend having a look at LM51772.

    Best regards,
    Brigitte
