BQ25616: ILIM and ICHG Tolerances

Part Number: BQ25616

Tool/software:

Hello,

According to the datasheet for this part, the following (approximate) electrical parameter tolerances as specified:

  • KICHG and KILIM pin setting ratios both have about +/-6% tolerance defined.
  • ICHG_ACC fast charge current regulation accuracy tolerance is about +/-6%.
  • INDPM_ACC (=500mA) input current regulation accuracy at tolerance is about +7.5/-3.2%.

I have three questions related to this.

1. In order to determine the effective tolerance for ICHG to the battery, do I need to add the tolerances of both KICHG and ICHG_ACC, in this case +/-12%? Same question applies for the input side, please.

2. With such wide tolerances, setting ICHG to 500mA and ILIM to 550mA could result in the effective operating point of ICHG exceeding that of ILIM, even with voltage step down factored in. What is the behavior of the chip in this situation? Will the battery still be able to charge in CC phase albeit at the current limit imposed by the more restrictive ILIM?

3. I think ideally, for my application, I would like to set both ILIM and ICHG to the same value (about 550mA) and then have the chip just fold back the current delivered to the battery based on any system load present. Is this a viable implementation setting?

Thank you,

Chris
