BQ24074: How to detect if a Non-Rechargeble Battery cell AA is present?

Part Number: BQ24074

Tool/software:

Hello,

I am currently working on an hand held device that can be powered by either an external connector, or trough a single rechargeable battery AA.

I ve been reading a lot, datasheets and discussions. My concern is related to this topic - LINK

Designing with rechargeable and non rechargeable batteries. How can we detect if a battery can be recharged or not?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide regarding this matter.

  • Hi Nelson,

Thank you for reaching out via E2E. The statement made by Jeff in the linked topic remains accurate. TI charger ICs do not have the ability to detect whether a connected battery is rechargeable verse non rechargeable. That determination will need to be made by external components rather than the BQ24074 charger IC.

    Best Regards,

    Garrett
