TPS53015: Designs with low Rds(ON) low side FETs and IOCL limitations

Part Number: TPS53015

Tool/software:

Hello,

Looking at the discussion from earlier, it seems that the IOCL would always be large for low Rds(ON) low-side FET designs.

Is there any way to add additional current protection functionality directly to the low-side fet or does one need to add additional current-limiting circuitry for low Rds(ON) low-side FET solutions? If so, do you have any recommendations for designs here?

Background:

For low Rds(ON) = 2-4 mΩ and low Vtrip (to trip at lower current)

the IOCL is mainly dominated by the Vtrip/Rds(ON) part in the Eq.
