LMZ14201: LMZ14201: Why is there a diode included at the output of the inverting configuration but not in the appnote?

Tool/software:

I'm looking at implementing the LMZ14201 or the LMZ14201H in an inverting (negative voltage) configuration and after looking at (AN-2027 Inverting Application for the LMZ14203 SIMPLE SWITCHER® Power Module), and a sample design from TI power designer, there seems to be a discrepancy with which a Schottky diode at the output is not included in the appnote but on TI power designer.

Is this diode necessary?
