UCC14130-Q1: Clarification regarding the usage of Device as a "Normal Isolated DCDC converter"

Dear TI,

I am designing a system that requires isolated 12V, -12V, and 3.3V outputs from a regulated 12V input supply. The isolated power will be used to supply the ADC section.

I’m considering the UCC14130QDWNRQ1 regulator for this purpose, but I found the datasheet a bit complex and would appreciate some clarification. Specifically, can this regulator be used as a simple isolated DC-DC converter to power downstream components?

I have attached a schematic snippet for your reference. Could you kindly have a look at it and confirm if the design is appropriate?

OR can you suggest any simpler device from your portfolio that best suits the requirements.

12V to 12V single output is no problem but you will not be able to get 12V to 3.3V from the third schematic shown. Download and complete the UCC14131 Excel Calculation Tool. You should be able to complete the tab labeled as "Dual Output" where VIN=12V, VDD-VEE=12V, COM-VEE=3.3V. See Figure 12.6 (a) in the UCC14131-Q1 data sheet.

Hi Steve,

In Table 5-1. Device Comparison Table , I can see that there are four variants available for UCC14130-Q1. But Im not getting the details about Choosing the specific variant I require.

Can you please guide?

There are not four variants referring to four sperate orderable part numbers but what is shown in Table 5-1 are four VIN ranges with four corresponding VDD-VEE ranges possible and four typical, achievable power levels. These four ranges are specified for the UCC14130-Q1 (Basic isolation) and UCC14341-Q1 (Reinforced isolation). There are only two variants (circled in red below), UCC14340-Q1 and UCC14341-Q1. Based on your specific VIN range and ambient temperature you can refer to the max output power vs temperature derating curves given in Figures 10-1 through 10-5 to estimate how much max output power is possible.
