LM5039: Full Wave Rectifier

Part Number: LM5039

Tool/software:

Hi,

Why does the LM5039 recommend a full-wave rectifier for the current sense? Is it due to imbalance or is there another reason? Most of the time current sense transformers only require a half wave rectifier and a reset resistor. Is there a specific reason for the full-wave rectifier?

Thanks,

-Noah

  • Hi,

Either half wave or full wave are ok to make current sense. LM5039 does not have a requirement to use full wave current sense. But if you want to get cycle by cycle current limit, you need to use full wave to detect each cycle but this is also true for other controllers. If you are ok to get cycle by cycle current limit not every cycle then half wave is ok. There is no difference compare this device and other devices on such considerations.
