Hi,

I want to use Bq79758/Bq79718 for my 16S BMS application. I want to use single AFE as base device (Don't want t stacking in this)

As we want to use it for single device application, We can use UART communication only (SPI not possible) if we don't want to use any External IC such as BQ79600/ ISO7342 as mentioned in datasheet?
As per datasheet section 8.2.2

ISO774 is recommended for UART. As we don't want isolation, I want to connect it to MCU directly as mentioned in option 2. Do you have any application circuit for that. It will invert the signal, right? Can we try this with EVB board as well? Is Q4 in EVK board is for same purpose?

Hello Monica,

We use the isolator for two reasons:

1- To protect the MCU communication lines from any EMI/EMC damage like transients.

2- Is because most MCUs communicate with 3.3V logic. Our BQ device communicate with 5V logic.

As long as you can communicate with the BQ device with 5V logic, you can avoid using an isolator. If your application doesn't allow you.
We don't have a reference design other than the one you have seen in the datasheet and our EVM user guide.
