TPS62914: Efficiency curve different in WEBENCH Power Designer

Part Number: TPS62914
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM62460

Tool/software:

Hi,

My use case is 12V input and 5V (up to 4A) output. The Efficiency vs Load curve (12V input, 5V output, 2.2MHz switching) given in the datasheet and the WEBENCH Power Designer is off by about 5%. Datasheet shows about 90% efficiency and WEBENCH shows about 96% efficiency at 4A output. Am I missing something?

Thanks!

  • Thank you for pointing this out. Please refer to the datasheet as the golden standard as this is measured on the EVM. Webench model is usually a fine reference but not perfect

    Best regards,

  • Thanks for your quick reply. I wanted to estimate the efficiency with 1 MHz switching. Can you recommend a method for this estimation as the Webench is giving me incorrect results? Or can you recommend a similar part that has the correct Webench model?

  • Due to US holiday, I can get back to this next week. The best method for estimation is to use the datasheet metrics as a benchmark. Is there a reason you want to use the 5VOUT case with 1MHz frequency? this is not our recommended fsw for VOUT=5V

  • That's my mistake. I didn't look at the datasheet carefully. I went through the online catalog and LM62460 appears more suitable for my application. Thanks for helping me!
