TPS54260: Does the TPS54260 IC have built-in overcurrent protection?

Part Number: TPS54260

Tool/software:

Does the TPS54260 IC have built-in overcurrent protection?

The maximum current of this converter IC is 2.5 amps, as I really simulated the circuit in Tina. The tool's output voltage is not dropping even when I apply a 3 amp load.Could you tell me why?Would you kindly assist me with it?

  • Hi

    Thanks for writing to us

TPS54260 does have built-in overcurrent protection, and typical current limit is around 6.1A

Tina model is using this value for the protection.

I simulated TPS54260 TINA-TI Transient Reference Design with load resistor of 333mOhm which is supposed to give 10A load current. However, from the attached waveform you could see that the device is clamping peak current to 6.24A and Vout is settled to 1.68V.

In your case, peak current limit is not exceeded with 3A load current, thus device is able to regulate at desired setpoint.

I hope this resolves your query. Let me know if have any further questions.

    Thank you

    Regards
