BQ76952EVM: Question regarding setting up the 1SnP battery configuration with DC power supply

Part Number: BQ76952EVM

Tool/software:

Hello, E2E forum!

I would like to ask you one question regarding the EVM board.

I am planning to test the 1SnP battery configuration using BQ76952EVM board.
Since I previously communicated with CSC regarding this matter, I already know that using '1SnP only' is not possible.

In that case, I would like to ask you about the method below to see if method below is possible to perform the experiment.
If it's not possible, can you tell me why it is not possible?

a) Connect DC power supply to the BQ76952EVM using "Cell16" and "BAT –" terminals for power support.
- I am guessing BMS needs some amount of power support to operate properly.
b) Short BQ76952EVM's "Cell 2 ~ 15" terminals because I am not trying to use these.
c) Connect 1SnP Configuration to the BQ76952EVM's "Cell 1" and "BAT – " terminals for the experiment.
d) Make sure DC power supply and 1SnP setup's ground voltages are same to prevent possible issues.

Regards,

  • Hello TJ,

If I understood your test correctly, regarding why 1S is not really possible to test on the board:

    a) As stated in Section 7.3 Recommended Operating Conditions of the BQ76952 Datasheet, the minimum supply voltage VBAT needs for normal operation is 4.7V. A 1S battery typically cannot provide the minimum needed voltage to power the device.

    b) By connecting a power supply to “Cell 2 to 15”, you are simulating another cell with the 1SnP connected to “Cell and BAT-” terminals. This means that you are not truly testing 1S as you have ‘2 Cells’, 1 an actual battery cell and 1 cell simulated with the power supply and resistors.

    Best Regards,
    Alexis
