Tool/software:

We have two of the USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01 evaluation boards.

We are able to use the boards as a sink to charge a battery without a problem.

When we try to use the boards as a source, they have a problem when the selected source voltage is greater than 5 volt, namely 9 volts.

Is there a known problem with these evaluation boards please?

Hi Rinaldo,

There is a known issue with the CHG EVM unable to source more than 5V. We are currently updating the CHG EVM to replace TPS25750 with TPS25751 that will resolve this issue, apologies for the inconvenience.

An alternative solution is to use the TPS25751EVM paired with BQ25792/8EVM, details are documented here: https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slvucp9a/slvucp9a.pdf#page=26

Hello Rinaldo,

We actually just updated the USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01 to go from the TPS25750 to the TPS25751. Moving to this new USB PD controller should fix the issues you are seeing. If you work with our customer service team, you may be able to replace the old ones with a new one.

Hi Raymond,

We replaced the TPS25750D with a TPS25751D on the two USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01 evaluation boards we have and programmed them for the TPS25751D.

I'm happy to say that both boards work well in source and sink modes, but we cannot get Fast Role Swap to work properly.

Is there something special we have to do for FRS please?

Unfortunately the TPS25751 does not support Fast Role Swap. It is able to support regular power role swaps but not fast role swaps.

What TI parts support FRS, please? Especially those with an evaluation board.

We have the TPS65994QFNEVM evaluation board, but we're being denied access to the technical information.

No one from your Export Team has contacted us. Can we please get any help with that?

Unfortunately we do not have a device available on ti.com that can support FRS. Apologies for the inconvenience. The TPS25751 is able to support power role swaps automatically but cannot support fast role swaps.
