BQ25620: I2C fast mode

Part Number: BQ25620

Tool/software:

Hi,

As datasheet 8.5.1 mentioned, seems low power mode need minimum tbuf in fast mode is least 80us.

Since we hope it can also support fast modee (400 kbits/s) in BQ25620 low power mode, is it possible? or it is BQ25620 limitation?

Thanks!

Jeff

  • Hi Jeff,

Yes at least 80us tbuf delay is required when using fast mode (400kbits/s) I2C communication on the BQ25620. It is a limitation on the IC.

  • Hi Garrett,

Is possible to share us why? Likes reduce I2C sampling rate to reduce the power consumption?

Or we can force BQ25620 in normal mode to let it work in 400kbits/s?

    Thanks!

    Jeff

  • Hi Jeff,

When the device is at its lowest power state (i.e. battery only mode with default register configuration) there is risk of the IC not functioning as intended due to 400kbits/s I2C communication.

The addition of 80us min tbuf delay or reducing I2C speed to standard mode (100kbits/s) eliminates the risk. The guidelines in section 8.5.1 must be followed to achieve the typical 1.5uA battery quiescent current specification listed in datasheet section 7.5 on page 8.

    Best Regards,

    Garrett
