UCC28051: reference design for flyback control and comparision with UCC28056

Hi,

We are designing a AC-DC converter with PFC for a 50W motor control application. Input is 230V 1ph AC and output is 80V DC. We are looking at implementing a flyback topology with PFC.

I found UCC28051 as a suitable controller. I see that you recommend UCC28056 for new designs. Could you please suggest which is more suitable for functionality as well as cost. Are they footprint compatible?

Could you also share reference design for these devices for flyback control.

Hello Jitendra,

The UCC28051 and the UCC28056 have completely different foot-prints and some functional differences and cannot be easily substituted for each other.
The UCC28056 is promoted for new designs of standard low-power boost-PFC applications.

I cannot find any reference designs of the UCC28056 controller used in a flyback-PFC application.

I do find PMP9730 which uses UCC28051 in a 36W, 12V flyback-PFC application: https://www.ti.com/tool/PMP9730
Although the output voltage is much lower, I think the design can be scaled to higher power and higher voltage output.
