BQ24070: BQ24070 TS Pin doubt

Part Number: BQ24070

Tool/software:

Hi,

I am currently using BQ24070 for an IoT device application. There is TS pin that is used to monitor the NTC temp of the battery. If we are not using the TS pin in our application, can it be left floating? or should it be tied to GND or VDD?

Thanks in advance!

  • Hello,

Thank you for reaching out via E2E. If you are not using the TS pin function in your application please connect a 10kohm resistor from TS pin to gnd so that the pin is biased for normal operation.

    Best Regards,

    Garrett

  • Thank you so much for your help, Garrett. I have one more doubt regarding the BQ24070. I will be using it in an IoT application where the load can occasionally draw a burst current of 2.5A. Will this cause any issue regarding the normal operation of the chip?

  • Hi Soham,

The BQ24070 IC is rated for 2A maximum input current at IN pin. Therefore, when output current draw increases to 2.5A the device will enter supplement mode where battery discharges to help support system load. More details can be found in datasheet section 8.3.1.1.3.

Beyond the fact that the IC will need to enter supplement mode there is no concern for the chip due to occasional 2.5A output current bursts.

    Best Regards,

    Garrett
