BQ24296M: Overwrite CE and Thermistor Fault

Part Number: BQ24296M

Tool/software:

We are using the BQ24296MRGER part in our design, but we have a safety circuit that disconnects the thermistor when the battery voltage drops too low.

Is there a way to override the CE (Charge Enable) and thermistor fault and enable charging only by configuring REG01[5:4]? Assuming CE and TS are not externally controlled, we need to bypass this restriction and enable the charger via the host.

According to specs:
A new charge cycle starts when the following conditions are valid:

• Converter starts

• Battery charging is enabled by I 2C register bit (REG01[5:4]) = 01 and CE is low

• No thermistor fault on TS

• No safety timer fault

• BATFET is not forced to turn off (REG07[5])

  • Hi,

Is there a way to override the CE (Charge Enable) and thermistor fault and enable charging only by configuring REG01[5:4]?

The /CE pin cannot be bypassed, so in order to ensure that the Host has direct control over charging, /CE should be pulled low. This way it will not gate charging, only the REG01 bits will prevent charging.

For the TS fault, the only way to bypass this fault is via Hardware with fixed resistor values. This is only recommended if the TS feature is not expected to be used.
