TPS61378-Q1: Schematic review request

Part Number: TPS61378-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi team,

I have designed the following boost converter schematic to accept a regulated 5V at 2A to output 12V at 0.7A max. Can you check the schematic to ensure the passive values are right, and if the input power is sufficient to supply the output? Also, is using the internal LDO output to drive the red LED appropriate? I am current limiting it to 6.4mA.

Thank you in advance!

  • Hi Zareef,

The capacitance of VCC cap is recommended to be a little bigger, such as 1.5μH or 2.2μH.

It's not recommended to use VCC as a power source and drive an external LED with current limit to 6.4mA, it's relatively big to the total VCC output capability.

No other concerns for this schematic.

    Regards

    Lei

  • Hi Lei,

Thank you for the feedback. I went with 1uF on VCC because I couldn't find any of the recommended caps from Webench through the distributor catalog I was using. Do you have any 2.2uF part number recommendations?

For the status LED, would I be able to pull PG up to a 5V source and connect a resistor and LED to the pin?

  • Hi Zareef,

Here is the part number GRM188R71A225KE15J of a available 2.2μH VCC cap

For the status LED, would I be able to pull PG up to a 5V source and connect a resistor and LED to the pin?

Do you mean that using a external 5V power supply to pull up the PG and drive the LED? If yes then OK.

Actually, the PG can simply be pulled up by VCC with a 100kΩ resistor, like below.
