BQ34Z100: Should I design the bq34z100 to always have battery power?

Part Number: BQ34Z100

Tool/software:

Should the battery always be powering the bq34z100?
Is it okay to design it so that the battery power is disconnected when the product is not in use and then connected when the product is turned on?
Is there any problem other than not being able to check for natural discharge when using it like above?
Or is not being able to check for natural discharge the problem?

  • Hello Ochul,

Yes, the battery should always be powering the bq34z100. If the product is not going to be used for a long time then the gauge should be sent into shutdown mode to limit the amount of self discharge that will happen.

    Regards,
