UA78M-Q1: high operating temperature of UA78M33QDCYRG4Q1

Part Number: UA78M-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LAUNCHXL-F28379D, DRV8300DPW-Q1EVM

Tool/software:

Hi,

I've a query related to operating temperature of UA78M33QDCYRG4Q1.

I'm using DRV8300DPW-Q1EVM with LaunchXL-f28379D. This LDO 3.3V regulator UA78M33QDCYRG4Q1 is used on EVM board for generating +3.3V from 12V output of the on board buck converter.

I've noticed that the temperature of the UA78M33QDCYRG4Q1 IC is hot compared to rest of the board.

With temperature gun I'm able to measure about 60~70°C. Is it expected ?

Details are below

  • I wish to powerup LaunchXL-f28379d using the EVM.
  • LaunchXL-f28397D has ALL jumpers DISCONNECTED (JP1-JP6).
  • DRV8300DPW-Q1EVM has default jumper configuration as shown in user guide.
  •  I've connected 3.3V & GND wires manually of both boards. PVDD = +24Vdc is provided to the EVM.
  • No other connection is made on both boards.

Below are measurements at UA78M33QDCYRG4Q1 IC

VI = 12 V, IO = 100 mA (seen from power supply display), IC Temp = 65°C after 3 mins, Ambient Temperature = 30°C.
