Tool/software:

Component page gives Vin (max) as 15V.

Datasheet 7.1 Absolute Maximum Ratings gives 20V.

7.3 Recommended Operating Conditions gives15V

Questions:

1. what is the actual maximum input rating of this device?

2. Will operation at 15V reduce reliability ?

    1. what is the actual maximum input rating of this device? - The recommended maximum input voltage is 15V and absolute maximum is 20V. This means that TI guarantees the advertised capabilities of the device up until VIN = 15V (among other recommended operating conditions in the datasheet being met). From VIN = 15V to VIN = 20V, the device will not be damaged but will also not perform as per the specs and characteristics shown in the datasheet. Beyond VIN = 20V, there is likelihood of damage to the device.

    2. Will operation at 15V reduce reliability? - No, it will not.
