BQ24195: BQ24195RGER

Part Number: BQ24195

Tool/software:

We are using MPN# BQ24195RGER in one of our project and we performed the thermal simulation. We have a requirement of operating temperature range up to 65°C.

  • As per thermal simulation results the IC temperature will be rising to 127°C at ambient 45°C and as per datasheet, the thermal regulation reduces charge current when the junction temperature exceeds 120°C (programmable).
  • We have performed the thermal testing on EVM of BQ24195RGER, and the IC temperature rises to 65.8°C at 45 °C ambient.

Hence the temperature of EVM has a delta of ~62°C with the board having BQ24195RGER IC.

  • Hello

Can you describe the operating condition of BQ24195 used for EVM test and thermal simulation?

  • Hi Bill,

We are using BQ24195RGER IC in our design and we have performed the thermal simulation. According to thermal simulation results the IC temperature is rising to 127°C at 45°C ambient. Which seems to be on higher side.
To evaluate we have performed the thermal testing on EVM board by keeping it in thermal chamber at 45°C ambient temperature.

We are observing the temperature by thermocouple on top of Charger IC in evm and the max temperature was 65.8°C at 45°C ambient.

Operating temperature requirement for the device is 0°C to 45°C when the battery is charging.
As per datasheet, the thermal regulation reduces charge current when the junction temperature exceeds 120°C (programmable), if the temperature will be 127°C then the charge current will be reduced.

  • Hi Navy

    For your calculations and test:

    1.) Input voltage?

    2.) System Load?

3.) Battery charge voltage and current?
