TPS25762DQ1EVM: Issue with the GUI and configuring the EVM

Part Number: TPS25762DQ1EVM

Tool/software:

I am really struggling to understand the GUI configuration steps for this EVM and I can't get it to provide any PDOs.

I have a brand new EVM in for the TPS25762.  I have plugged it into a power source and put a PD reader onto the USB port but do not get anything out.  I have tried PD devices as well as sniffers and they get nothing from the chip.  I have not changed any jumper settings on the board from how it shipped.  From factory I expected this to at least have some defaults loaded.  Is this not the case?

Also, I find the GUI and its manual quite frustrating.  I have gotten access to and pushed the base firmware TPS25762DQ1_V8.03_60W_full_flash.bin but still nothing.  All of the hardware configuration data (jumper numbers and locations) are incorrect for the version of the EVM that I am using.  Is there a version of hardware that the GUI doesn't work with?

I have experience with other TI PD controllers and have successfully loaded new configs using the GUI+Aardvark but have found this one to be quite difficult to use.  In the GUI, what are the steps to creating a config bin that I can load using the Aardvark?  Do I have to upload a base firmware?  If so, where can I get a valid base firmware to start with?

Thanks,

Austin

  • Hi Austin,

    Thanks for reaching out.

    1. For the hardware setting, you can also refer to the "Hardware Setup" on the home page, it's a red button on the left side. Please make sure you don't have jumpers on J7, to leave the TVSP pin open. It should be ok as the default setting of the EVM, but please double check it. I'm not sure if there's any defaults loaded, it will based on which EVM you are testing.

    2. Yes you need the full region binary file for EVM. For the first time flashing EEPROM, please use "EEPROM Flash" rather than "USB endpoint flash". Please also check whether the EVM you use is based on TPS25762"C" or "D". Different Rev needs different GUI device selection and base firmware image. GUI works for all TPS25762s, the GUI version you use should be v2.1.0.

    3. You will need a base firmware for creating any firmware, no matter directly use GUI or use Aardvark for flashing. To get it, please go the GUI page and check "get started - step 3: Request access to download the TPS257XX-Q1 firmware package". For 762D, you'll need vF411x. For 762C, you'll need vF311x.
