BQ76907: Vcell7 not updating the cell voltage for BQ76907

Part Number: BQ76907

Tool/software:

Hi TI Support Team,

I'm using BQ76907 5cell configuration.

Vcell1 = Cell1 Voltage, 0x14

Vcell2 = Cell2 Voltage, 0x16

Vcell3 = Cell3 Voltage, 0x18

Vcell4 = Cell5 Voltage, 0x1c

Vcell5 = Cell7 Voltage, 0x20

I'm able to read all 5 cell voltages, however Cell7 Voltage always read the same voltage (not responding to the voltage change).

=> Why Cell1, 2,3 and 5 is able read respective voltage but cell7 is not able to capture the new voltage level?

Regards,

Ferlyn

  • Hello Ferlyn,

    Do you mind sharing your schematic and configuration (.gg) file? Also, does a multimeter at the pin, show the voltage is changing as well for Cell 7?

    Best Regards,
    Alexis

  • Hi Ferlyn,

    When the Vcell mode register is changed to a lower cell count, the registers for the disabled cells stop updating and reflect the last value entered before the cells were disabled.

    The registers do not necessarily reflect their respective VC pin, i.e. VC7 does not always correspond to the Cell 7 register. When the cell count is reduced, the mapping between VC pin measurement and Cell X register is shifted so that the Cell 5 register is mapped to the fifth physical cell.

    This behavior is why it is important that when reducing the cell count, the placement of the cells must follow the directions given in the datasheet.
