LMR36503-Q1: ISO21780 capable

Part Number: LMR36503-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMR38010-Q1, LM5168-Q1

Tool/software:

Dear team,

My customer likes to consider LMR3650x or LMR516xx for 48V automotive application, but we are not sure it has capability of ISO21780. Especially it has 40ms * 1000cycles with 70Vin test to withstand. Can it pass this test? and do our 65Vin_recmmended with 70Vin_abs_max switching regulators have capability of 48V automotive application and ISO21780? Otherwise I should recommend LMR38010-Q1 which has 80Vin, but it is too much output current capacity and lower efficiency in lower output current.

Do we have 80Vin lower output current portfolio with smaller package? I know we have LM5168-Q1 and etc. but it is too big for their application (e-pump).

Best regards,
Yuto

  • Hi Yuto,

I understand the concern, since LMR36503x device has abs max of 70V. I don't see a reason why it couldn't, but I think 1) there is no margin to prevent damage to device; and 2) customer would appreciate knowing that our device has some margin. For now, I suggest promoting the LMR38010-Q1.

Please send me an email to discuss some other devices coming down the pipeline to see if we could support it given the project timeline.

    Thanks,

    Richard
