TPS22997: Quick Output Discharge max. Current

I have a question about the TPS22997. In the datasheet it says that the Quick Output Discharge (QOD) pin is typ. 50R to GND when the load switch is switched off. The 50R being realised as an internal FET.

How much current is the QOD pin / the internal FET able to handle? I cannot find a value in the datasheet. I am afraid that it could cause a problem to connect the QOD pin directly to my 5V output voltage when there is quite some capacitance on that voltage that would discharge through QOD potentially damaging the device due to over-current / -heat.

QOD FET can handle high discharge current

Device has TSD. If in case it heats up, it will be turned off.

Thanks for your reply. What exactly happens during the thermal shutdown? Does the discharging of the output voltage stop? And is it guaranteed that there is no harm done to the device, even if this happens more often?

Hello Jakob,

Device will be in latch off mode. Shutting down internal circuit.

QoD FET is internally regulated. You don't have to worry about its SOA.

What's your COUT cap you are planning to connect. Do send the schematic for review.

If the device takes care of the SOA that is fine, I was just worried about damage. The COUT will always change depending on the application in our case, probably in the range of a few hundred uF.
