BQ40Z80EVM-020: "Program Srec: Packet checksum mismatch.", "No acknowledge from device.", "Command error sending data: Timeout or unexpected response communicating with device."

Part Number: BQ40Z80EVM-020

Tool/software:

Hi,

I encountered a problem with the BQ40Z80EVM-020. The device was working fine, and I don't really know what happened for it to stop. The device is still picked up by BQStudio and opens automatically but the "Data Memory" is completely empty and when I try to write anything to any of the fields I get "Operation failed because initial read of all data flash failed". Furthermore, I can't upload a .srec file to restore it as I get "Program Srec: Packet checksum mismatch." and if I try to send a command it says, "No acknowledge from device" and "Command error sending data: Timeout or unexpected response communicating with device.".

Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Marco,

Is this being done with the on-board EV2400 or an externally connected EV2400? What is the applied voltage at this time, and is it greater then the Valid Update Voltage parameter?

    Regards,

    Anthony

  • The symptoms are the same for both the on-board and external EV2400. On the charger side (connected to Pack- and Pack+) max that can be applied is 25200mV and the battery is currently at 23980mV (6 cell). I am unsure where to find the Valid Update Voltage parameter to check.

    Regards

    Marco

  • Hi Marco,

Understood, if the Valid Update Voltage has not been changed it should be at 3500mV/per cell, so the battery voltage should be ok here.

Would it be possible to receive a scope shot of the communication lines? If bqStudio is able to auto-populate then there should be some reading being accomplished.

    Regards,

    Anthony

  • Hi Anthony, thank you for the assistance. I have replaced the bq40z80 chip and the EVM is working now.

    Kind Regards
