TPS5430: Inquiry about damage to the Filter Capacitor connected to the BOOT pin of TPS5430

Part Number: TPS5430

Tool/software:

Hi, TI expert

The customer is using the product by applying TPS5430.

Currently, during the installation and operation of the product on site, a case occurred where the Filter Capacitor connected to the BOOT pin of TPS5430 was damaged.

The design is input voltage 24VDC, output voltage 12VDC, and the Output Filter Cap is 100uF/25V Tantal.

Is there any expected cause for the damage of the Output filter cap?

Are there any cases or cases where the output capacitor of the DC-DC converter is damaged?

Please check. Thank you.

  • Hi Grady

    Thanks for writing to us!

Correct me if I am wrong, from looking at picture it appears the output tantalum cap is damaged.

Could you elaborate what was the test scenario when damaged occurred?

Are there any cases or cases where the output capacitor of the DC-DC converter is damaged?

Yeah, output capacitor damage is more likely during output over voltage events

    Thank you
