What makes TPS2700 a load switch and TPS1663 e fuse ?

is it the features that both the devices offer?

I am trying to replace an old load switch of my design with e fuse TPS1663 , so this doubt came into my mind.

as far as i understand both have a internal MOSFET and fundamental function remain same to switch the power between source and load.

Basics of Load Switches (Rev. A)

In case of eFuse it's used to protect power path usually at the input. Downstream can be DC-DC converter or motor load etc.

Load switches are usually to turn ON and off the load. Just before the output load. Usually with lower voltage and small formfactor.

What's your system requirement? I can recommend as per that.

Hi Amrit

a 24-volt supply is going out from my device to field devices, and i want to protect this supply/load

My requirements for the load switch are

1.overcurrent protection adjustable through external resistor

2.active low Power good indication

3. less than 88MOhm RDS on

4.Thermal shut down

5. active low input control

I saw that load switch TI offer has doesn't have power good indication instead have overcurrent/load protection fault reporting, but along with these it offers open load detection as well. In our application load can be open and it should not create any fault signal.

Can you suggest any part satisfying these requirements.

Hello Sooraj,

TPS2663/TPS1663 can be a good fit here.

TPS2663 has PGOOD and PGTH pins which can be used as EN and UVLO for downstream circuits.

/FLT signal for fault indication.

Hello Sooraj,

Yes, TPS1663 has features that you have mentioned. I have highlighted working of PGOOD as below. For more details, please refer datasheet

PGOOD goes high when the internal FET’s gate is enhanced. PGOOD goes low when the internal FET turns OFF during a fault event or when SHDN is pulled low. There is a deglitch of 11.5 msec (typical), tPGOODR, at the rising edge and 10 msec (typical), tPGOODF, on falling edge.

There is FLT pin which goes low during faults.

FET will be off during short circuit event and PG will be pulled low.
