TLV1117LV: TLV1117LV working reliability under 5V Vin

Hi Expert,

My customer wants to use TLV1117LV under 5VDC Vin, it is smaller than our recommended max VIN 5.5V, so it should be OK. But customer has concern about some overshoots or surge will happen in Vin.

1. What is the pulse Vin, max Abs. value?

2. If customer accepts to add additional protection circuit, what is your recommendation?

Hi Evan,

Absolute maximum Vin for this device is 6V. The 5V that they use should be perfectly acceptable for this device.

If Vin were to spike for a short time period, we recommend looking at the line transient characteristics of this device below:

The device should be able to be okay if something were to happen.

Hi Hannah,

If a small spike larger than 6V happens shortly, is there any risk to damage the device? Do you recommend to add a TVS in Vin, in case of a short surge higher than 6V?
