TPS73801-SEP: How to limit inrush current

Part Number: TPS73801-SEP

Tool/software:

Hello,

I am using the TPS7801-SEP LDOs in my PCB design and have encountered system issues related to inrush current. Currently, I control the enable (EN) signal so that it rises only after the input power supply is stabilized.

I am considering connecting the EN pin directly to the power supply, which has a controlled ramp-up, to potentially reduce inrush current and achieve a more gradual startup. Would this be a recommended approach for an LDO without a built-in soft-start feature?

I appreciate your insights on this.

Best regards,
Thibaud

  • Hi Thibaud,

Yes, that is the approach we typically recommend. Connecting EN to VIN so that the LDO output can follow the controlled slew rate of the VIN rail as it ramps up would be the best way to reduce the inrush current.

    Thanks,

    Sarah
