UCC21710-Q1: Gate driver for 3300V Microchip SiC MOSFET

Part Number: UCC21710-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC21750

Tool/software:

Hello,

Could you please suggest me a suitable gate driver to drive MSC025SMA330B4N microchip make SiC To247-4L MOSFET. The total gate charge of this device is 400 nc. We need suitable gate driver to operate the same in AFE full bridge configuration.

The data sheet of the mosfet is available online.

regards,

Nikhil

  • Hi Nikhil,

Gate driver selection would be based on multiple factors,

    1. Isolated or non-isolated? If isolated, what is the isolation voltage requirement, automotive /industrial?

    2. what is the needed drive strength (depending upon the total gate charge needed and the rise time of the gate)

    3. What other features are needed (DESAT/OC, miller clamp, etc)

    4. What is the gate drive voltage needed (based on the FET chosen) does the UVLO of the gate driver supports it?

Can you please check against these factors?

you can view all the different gate drivers availability from the following link

  • Hello Sasikala,

    Thank you for your reply.

    here is the response.

    1. Isolated or non-isolated? If isolated, what is the isolation voltage requirement, automotive /industrial?

Response: - Isolated gate driver with industrial isolation

    2. what is the needed drive strength (depending upon the total gate charge needed and the rise time of the gate)

Response: Total gate charge is 400 nC and rise time is around 26 ns. so we need gate driver >16 A

    3. What other features are needed (DESAT/OC, miller clamp, etc)

    Response: DESAT is required

    4. What is the gate drive voltage needed (based on the FET chosen) does the UVLO of the gate driver supports it?

Response: Voltage must be between +23 V (higher side) and -10 v (lower side)

  • Hi Nikhil,

Based on your request UCC21750 will fulfill most of your requirement however it has the drive strength of ~10A only. You could use external buffer to increase the driver strength > 10A.

We do have UCC5880 driver, it is SPI programmable, has additional feature, 15A drive strength and is automotive grade.

    Hope it fulfills the requirement.

    Thanks
