BQ79616: Negative cell voltage measurement

Part Number: BQ79616

Tool/software:

Dear experts,

In my application case, there is negative cell voltage indeed.

for instance, A point = -1V, B point = -2V, C point = -3V, D point = -4V, etc. BQ79616 is powered externally.

in this case, BQ79616 is able to measure the negative cell voltage? The datasheet has statement like below,

it seems workable for n>=2 to 16,  VCn - NVn-1 > = -1.

But it seems not, VC1 - VC0 must > 0, VCn to AVSS > = 3V.

then how can we understand the -1V voltage measurement in datasheet? it seems that CELL1 need be always positve for negative voltage measurement. why?

Cheers.

Alex

  • Hello Alex,

    The CB pins will have an abs min of -0.3V, so those may conduct in this case and could cause damage, so careful about those. However, yes it should be possible for the part to measure negative values and we characterize down to -2V (as seen in the datasheet).

    Best Regards,
