TPS23881: TPS23881 Used in parallel

Part Number: TPS23881
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS23882

Tool/software:

Hi TI Team,

The customer uses TPS23881, and they want to make 8 POE ports and 2 data ports, so the number of channels of TPS23881 is not enough, so if two 23881 ports are used in parallel, SCL,SDA and INT ports are directly connected in parallel, and then connected to MCU, is it OK? Please help to confirm the reply. Is the other 56 OSS feet allowed to hang?

  • Hi Ken,

    Thanks for reaching out.

    1 x TPS23881 has 8 channels, and a 4-paris port (> 30W) needs 2 channels for TPS23881. In your case if you want to output 8 x (>30W) ports, you will need 2 x TPS23881 chips. If it is <=30W per port, you can use 1 x TPS23881 or 1 x TPS23882.

     You can check our reference designs (https://www.ti.com/tool/TPS23881EVM-083), which is a 24-port PSE system, for parallel. Schematic is included in website.

    Best regards,
    Diang
