USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01: flashing using Aardvark

Part Number: USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01

Tool/software:

Hi for the USB-PD-CHG-EVM board, the Aardvark connector doesnt supply 3.3V to the board, how do we expect flashing to work then by just connecting Aardvark to our PC? Now we have to supply power to the board externally as well?

It doesn't mention in the documentation how to power it while flashing.

  • Hi Aria,

The EEPROM is powered off of LDO3V3, which comes from the PD controller.

To power LDO3V3 and the PD controller, you can just attach a USB-C source to the type-C connector, and then you should be good to flash the EEPROM using the Aardvark connector.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Chris

  • Ok that worked. However can someone explain, why after programming when I dont have a battery connected , I do see 12V on the batte connector which is good. But as soon as I connect my batteries to it, the voltage starts dropping?
If I remove the batteries and measure the voltage it does show 11.7 correctly, I am pretty  sure I am connecting the leads as per the silkscreen

  • Hi Aria,

What voltage is your battery at by itself? If not fully charged, the battery charger will not necessarily be at 12-V.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Chris

  • By itself the battery shows 11.7V , but as soon as we connect it to the battery jumper, it drops. I assumed it should show the same voltage when connected to the eval board.
One more thing, the moment I connect the charger to it, the board starts making a sound. If I remove the charger atleast I do get a system voltage which loooks right.
But I cant connect the charger as it appears something doesnt like it. Do you know what could go wrong?
