TPS2663: Parallel TPS2663x without shutdown the uC

Part Number: TPS2663

Tool/software:

Hello,

I am planning to use the TPS26630 in parallel as my load current is more than 6A. I would like my system to be protected from reverse polarity but i also want to control the load ON/OFF using the SHDN pin.

Added to the load i have another uC that i don't it to be shutdown as it will control the efuse. If i connect the DC/DC and the uC from the IN pin of the fuse will my system (DCDC + uC + Load) still be protected from reverse polarity? If the SHDN is enabled and the load is switched off will that also cause the FET Q1 to switch off too and my uC will be switched off too?

Thank you very much for your support.

  • Hello Fedi,

Thanks for choosing TPS2663 for your design.

You can connect at the output of the TPS2663 or separate reverse polarity protection for DC-DC converter and MCU.

Please validate this if you are planning to connect at input side. There could be transients or spikes at input of DC-DC converter which could affect the eFuse working.

    Thanks

  • Hello,

    Thank you for your answer.

It will not be possible to connect at the output of the efuse as if i trigger the SHDN pin the MCU will be off too.

So it seems i need to use a separate Reverse polarity protection for the system before the efuse and at that time i don't need Q1 and Q2 connected correct? (the global reverse polarity protection will protect both the load and DCDC/MCU so it will be a redundant protection)

  • Hello Fedi,

That sounds correct. Yes, you don’t need Q1 and Q2 then.

For reverse polarity protection, you can check ideal diode portfolio for your system.

    Thanks
