TPS25730: purpose of using TPS25730D(with internal MOSFET) / TPS25730S(with external MOSFET)

Part Number: TPS25730

Tool/software:

What is the key purposes of using TPS25730D with internal MOSFET or TPS25730S with external MOSFET? And also mention the conditions for both TPS25730D/TPS25730S.

In my design  I'm using Type-C connector with TBT port assumed to be 5V @ 3A for this application(15W). In this TPS25730D(internal mosfet)/TPS25730S(external mosfet) which should I use?

  • Hi Sridhar,

The TPS25730 does not support TBT. If you require a TBT capable USB-C PD port, you will need to reach out to Intel about their TBT solutions and use the PD controller recommended in their design.

Functionally, the TPS25730D and S are similar, the main difference is the internal vs. external power path. Some things that may affect part selection are solution size, flexibility of control of the power path, and cost.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Chris
