BQ27220: Issue with BQ27220 Fuel Gauge Detection in BQStudio Using EV2400

Hi,

We are trying to configure the BQ27220 fuel gauge OTP data region and perform calibration, following the bq27220 Calibration Guide (SLUA771). Our hardware setup includes the EV2400, and we are using the BQStudio tool.

However, the target is not being detected in BQStudio. It does not auto-detect, and manually selecting the target also has no effect. We tested accessing the fuel gauge using the ADVARK tool, and it worked successfully.

We suspect that the issue could be related to the hardware setup, possibly due to pull-up resistors on the EV2400 interfering with those already present on our board. Alternatively, there could be a configuration issue in the BQStudio software.

Has anyone encountered a similar issue or have any suggestions for troubleshooting? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

EV2400 already has pullups. Please disable pullups on board.

Hi @Jose Couso,

I tested after removing the pull-ups, but there was no change. Here’s what appears in the BQ Studio tool.

For additional information, I'm using BQ Studio Version 1.3.101.1, and BQ27220 is listed as a supported device in this version.

Hello,

BQ27220 is supported by bqStudio.
Make sure you are using I2C port in EV2400 interface connector.

Can you compare the difference of EV2400 and ADVARK too using a bus capture?
Check the difference in the activity in the bus line.

Hi Jose Couso,

Thank you for your support. I tested the setup on a board where the SoC and level shifter are isolated, and in this configuration, BQ Studio successfully detects the gauge. This confirms that the issue is hardware-specific. Currently, the hardware team suspects that the internal pull-ups in the level shifter might be causing the problem, and they are actively investigating it.
